I am silver and exact I have no preconceptions

Whatever I see I swallow immediately

Just as it is, unmisted by love or dislike

extract from Mirror pub 1961 by Sylvia Plath

In this site-specific installation, You Are There, at Trinity College Cambridge, I have brought together mirrors and frames, property of College, where the female reflection and portrait have been scarce. The work weighs the life and influence of women who have consistently made their mark over five hundred years against an undeniable visual hiatus: official rooms are lined with portraits yet they leave you wondering, where are the women?  It is just forty years since the first women were admitted to the College.  This public installation took place in a bedroom which to date has never been occupied by a female academic.
