Gathering Worlds, was sited in a former church in Tivoli and the aim was to make an installation which had a bearing on the nature of the local community. Tivoli has acted as a hillside resort since early Roman times. It has changed little both in size and function, continuing to be a part of the huge daily ebb and flow of Roman visitors. It is the temporary nature of the tracks and traces they leave behind that this work considers. The pavements are made of small squares of basalt rock which each day become framed by the accretion of the ephemera of daily life, small fragments of constantly shifting parts of cultural and social interaction. A slide is projected from a chapel area through a narrow opening into a grotto. These spaces are linked and accessed by a larger area on the right. In experiencing this installation, the viewer brings together three interlocking spaces.
