Anatomy of a Copse  2012-16

Normandy

Jane Boyd

Ever-changing growth and regrowth of a small hazelwood copse over a three-year period.  This is about drawing in three-dimensional space.  In the spring, the light continuously re-draws the space surrounding each tree; by winter pruning, it reveals the organic defoliated structure.  The light of the spring gives way to near total dark density in the Summer.

This work is for a photographic wall installation where the copse exists as five tall “tree-trunk” shapes.
